We are a week into the new year. I hope 2018 treats all of us with kindness.

I was looking at all my old posts recently, and realised that this past year, I did quite a few new things with my blog. So for self satisfaction and self gratification, I am writing this post about them. I hope it will inspire me to do more this year. I am also writing this to say a few thanks to some deserving people.

I participated in 2 blog-a-thons this year.

One was a month long one of one post a day in the month of Jan 2017. It was initiated by Maya. So I was inspired enough to write everyday. There was no restriction on topic, just a blog a day. This really helped getting those creative juices flowing. I really enjoyed it. So my thanks are due to her. I did not think I had it in me to complete this at all. My only question is, why no blog-a-thon this year, Maya?

The second blog-a-thon I participated in was conducted by good folks at BlogARhythm. This was in the month of Jun-July. This was a fortnight long blog-a-thon where we had to write a blog for a given prompt/theme. I had a lot of fun doing this. I got a winner’s badge at the end of it. So, that was a highlight of last blogging year. Thanks guys.

The credit of me taking part in these blog-a-thons definitely goes to my daughter. She put me up to them and encouraged me to write. She believed when I didn’t. So my thanks goes to you too sweetie.

The next new thing I did in my blog world is that I started a series on Astronomy called Starlit Sky. This is a series that I am still continuing this year. It is a dedication to my dad who was an astronomy enthusiast. He gave me a lot of material written in Telugu and I am making a humble attempt to translate it into English. If you are interested, you can read the series under the “Starlit Sky” menu option. Start at the beginning and move using the serial number. I am proud of this achievement. My thanks to dad for believing in me.

This year, I attempted something totally new to me. Never in my life have I ever written a story or a poem. But, this year during the two blog-a-thons, I tried to write short stories. I was spurred on to write more with all the likes I got from fellow bloggers. So my thanks are due to all the people who appreciated my stupid stories.

My tiny success with short stories have made me bold enough to try flash fictions that are hosted by so many talented people of the blog-o-sphere. I am surprised with myself that  I was able to write stories within stipulated word limits to the photo prompts given. I now have about 20 stories to my credit. Can you believe it? I can’t!

So my immense thanks are due to the flash fiction hosts. Till now, I have taken part in the flash fictions hosted by Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers, Friday Fictioneers by Rochelle, and #Write photo by Sue Vincent.

I also must express my heartfelt thanks to all the readers of my stories and participants of these flash fiction family. You goad me to write every week. I read all your stories for the same prompts and I am constantly amazed by your creativity. More power to all of you.

How can I forget WordPress in my list of thanksgiving! It kept showing me statistics of my views, likes, comments. Those numbers made me want to write more. So thank you WordPress!

My blog has made me believe I can do. So my deepest thanks to my blog too. 😀

Be with me for more this year.
