Dear you-know-who-you-are,

Today’s prompt is to:

Write a letter to a person who supported your writing career, whether that be a friend, a family member, a teacher (even one that supported you at a very young age before you knew that it would blossom into a writing career), an author you’ve never met but have been inspired…

I can’t think of anyone else but you today.

I was never a person who wrote in my childhood or even adulthood. Sure, in college days I maintained a diary of daily events. That was for about 2-4 years and then it stopped. I never participated in debates and essay-writing or anything.

Of course, when you started participating in school debates and had to give tiny speeches, I wrote for you. I was so proud when you stood there on the stage with no fear and told my lines perfectly. You made them your own.

As you grew older, you did not need me. You wrote your own debates and skits for school. You would read them out to me and we would brainstorm for some right word or phrase.

Then you started your blog and I was so happy with what you wrote. It gave my such a pleasure to read your stories, poems and essays.

Out of the blue, one day you said that I should write a blog myself. You said that since I had helped you write some stuff way back, you said I could write. I did not believe you. In fact I told you I had nothing to say. Do you remember the day you created this blog? I was half asleep. You insisted and persisted and pestered and “sutti kotted” (telugu phrase for ‘bored the brains out’). You went ahead and created this blog and told me to write whenever I felt like it.

I did not write a single thing for almost 9 months. Then just on a whim I wrote a couple of posts and I was hooked.

Now I am more than 150 posts old. Can you imagine? I still find it mind-boggling that I wrote so much. I found a joy in writing that is indescribable. It does help when I get “likes” and “comments” from other bloggers.

But I owe this joy to you, my dear.
