She stretched out her hand to pick up her tea. She winced. The pain at her side stabbed her. She lifted her cup to her swollen face. Even the mildly hot tea burnt her bruised lips.

It was not supposed to be this way. She gave up her university job, her family and her friends just to please him. Yet, he found something or the other to pick a fight and get physically violent.

“I had trusted him. How can he do this to me?” she thought.

“No!” her inner voice asserted back. ” The question should be: How can you allow this to happen again and again to you? Trust is a two way street.”

She finished her tea. Packed up her bag and never looked back.
