This Arnold Schwarzenegger 1991 movie features in my A2Z memorable movies, not because of its story or even its special effects, but because it was with friends that I saw this movie.

During the time when this movie released, I was working in a software firm. Ours was a large project team and all of us got along well with each other. As it is usual in all projects, the deadlines were yesterday! So we would work on all weekends and stay back late too on weekdays. On one such working Sunday, a bunch of us got very bored with working and so decided to go off to a long lunch and a movie later. The latest release Terminator 2 – Judgment Day was chosen. Personally, I think it was since it was playing in a hall far away from the office πŸ˜‰

I had (and still have not) seen the earlier movie of this franchise, namely The Terminator. I have not seen the next ones too. So I had no idea at all about the back story or even the premise. I just went along because everyone seemed to prefer it, and I just wanted a good time with friends.

This movie is (maybe, I am not so sure) one of the first movies to use extensive special effects and they were very nice to watch too. Have you seen it? Do you remember the chase scene where the villian robot transforms himself and sort of reforms like molten liquid? Awesome!

I enjoyed the special effects a lot. It was the first time that I had seen something like this. But as far as story goes, I was a bit clueless. I had no idea why the boy was being chased by this shape-shifting-robot-bad-guy or why this other robot who is also a terminator of sorts protecting him. Also I never got what the “Judgment Day” business here! πŸ˜€

These were also the times when there were no subtitles. So if the accent is not understood, then you are on your own with the movie! I was at that time still not as used to the American accent as I am today, so half the dialogues went over my head. Also, let’s face it, Arnold Schwarzenegger mumbles a lot! ;D

One of my friends royally slept through the whole movie. Although how he did that with all the noise of destruction going on, I have no idea. Maybe he was so tired working continuously that this was a welcome break.

After the movie was over, one other friend said the most hilarious thing ever. He said, “Ok, now you tell me your version of the story and I will tell you mine!”, implying that even he was as clueless as me!

So, here is “my” version of the story as I understood. πŸ˜€ There is a lady in a weird jail cum asylum. She is trying to escape, then a molten-robot-thingy attacks her. She is rescued by Arnold Schwarzenegger who later turns out be a robot himself. Then begins a chase lasting the whole movie, where they try to outsmart the molten robot guy. There is a boy too thrown into the mix. In the end, after a lot of fights, the molten robot guy is finally conquered!

Oh! Don’t get upset with the non-story I just told you! I already told you that I did not what get the “Judgment Day” is in this whole mix!

Clueless or not, going to a movie with friends is one of the best things to remember. Don’t you agree!

The A2Z challenge 2019 is going to be all the movies that have left an impact on me someway or the other. Some have made me think. Some that I like a lot, some that I really hated. But all of them have left a memory behind which makes the movie more special than the rest. They may not be all classics or iconic but they are close to my heart.
